Critiques
I adore the textures in this piece. The wood, the bit of stubble, the fuzziness of the eyelashes, the creases in the eyelids, the bridge of the nose and the under-eye area, and the (overlay?) texture that appears on the shoulders and neck. They all make my fingers twitch to touch and explore.
The composition is balanced and effective. Nearly half and half with the wood and the figure. Another case where the rule of thirds was meant to be ignored.
The light here is just grand. That strip seeping through provides enough strength and directionality to shine on the floor in a way that draws me from the bottom of the image to the face. It gives a wonderful tactile quality to the skin as mentioned previously. And the blowout by the left eye lends to the magical qualities of the image.
And that brings me to the content of the image...
The neutral expression is perfect for letting me decide the story here. And, oh! such stories I can create! In one view, this image is almost dark and sinister... in another it can be light and joyful. It all depends on what I imagine could be there through the crack and what lies in the darkness of the room in from which you are peering beyond.
I am sorry I could not help you improve your craft by pointing out flaws, but I truly love this image.
